The 2020 election is coming fast. It’s only February, and we’ve already seen several candidates (including Kamala Harris and Cory Booker) announce their plans to run for president. It’s time now to start looking at the candidates and their policy statements.
And as we’ve seen over the past weeks, politics at the local level is also incredibly important. So our action items for the day:
- Find out when your next local election is and learn about the candidates.
- Start researching candidates on the national level.
- Make an action plan for how you’ll get involved and support candidates centering issues that affect people of color.
Some key policies to keep an eye on include: voting rights, policing/police oversight, how to treat drug crimes, and issues around affordable housing. But there are many more.
